CLARK, CLARKE, CLARKSON, CLEARY, CLERK, LEARY, MacCHLERICH, MacCHLERY, MacCLAIR, MacCLEAR, MacCLEARY, MacCLERIE, MacLEAR, MacLERIE

This web site is dedicated to the family name of Clark and derivatives of which are of Scottish decent. There are so many different variations of the name in use around the world it is difficult for us to trace our ancestry. The Clark name can be traced throughout both Scottish and Irish history, both histories are covered on this site.
Through the widespread use of charter Latin it must be appreciated that the occupation which started the name was widespread and this undoubtedly giving rise to many other lines of Clarks, Clerks, Klercks etc., and so, unless a definitive ancestral links can be traced to Scotland, such ancestry should not be claimed on evidence of name alone. Furthermore, unless ancestral links can be traced to lands associated with the above named clans it is not accurate to claim a septual kinship. It is also possible that many had long association with other clans, such also being determined by the residence of one's forebears. With respect to Clarkson, it has a long tradition of widespread use in Scotland.
As this site develops it is intended to be a place where information about our heritage can be found and shared. It is the intent of this site to gather family information so that links with other families can be formed. It may take some time before our database can grow to the point that we can reach back in time for a glimpse of what the world was like for our forefathers. But as we gather information I am sure that the world will become more clear. We have traced our family linage to Glasgow around the 1500 to 1600’s, it is at that point we are still Clark’s. Archibald Clark was my ever-so-great grand father born around that time. We rented land from the Campbell’s in the 1800’s. Scottish links go back on both sides of my family after emigrating to the USA in the 1800’s.
